With that being said, let’s dive into some of the key features included in both Semrush and Similarweb’s service offerings.

Semrush offers a 7 Day Free Trial for their Traffic Analytics Tool if you’re interested in checking it out before committing to a paid plan.
‼ It is also important to note that if your website receives less than 5,000 monthly visits, you will not receive website traffic insights from Similarweb. Semrush does not have a data threshold which means you can gain access to site traffic data even before you reach a certain number of monthly visitors.
“Brands should follow competitor analysis method as this process helps you find effective strategies that you can use for improving the efficiency of your company.”- Streamlyn Academy
Round 2: Keyword Research
Keyword research is absolutely the most important part of any digital marketing strategy.
You can’t expect to reach your target audience online without understanding the terms they would use to find you.
With that being said, it is critical that you use the proper tools to complete this step.
You can view the table below to see how Semrush and Similarweb compare in this area.

I think it is also worthwhile to mention here that the Semrush database currently contains more Google keywords than any other tool. I also love that, in an effort to help users discover relevant keywords as quickly as possible, Semrush groups keyword ideas together by subject matter.
Round 3: Social Media and Content Marketing
An effective digital marketing strategy in 2021 should absolutely include social media. And I am all for a platform that simplifies social media management.
Unfortunately, Similarweb does not offer social media services at this time.
However, I will discuss what Semrush has to offer in the social media category.
All of the following networks are available when using Semrush:
- Google My Business
- YouTube
As an added convenience, you can post the same content to multiple platforms to save time. (Because we all know time is money!)
You can also build out and manage ads through the Semrush platform, monitor mentions, and more.
Content Marketing
When Tanzek Media first came into existence, it was because I saw a growing need for content creators to assist business owners.
Your digital marketing strategy is absolutely nothing without effective content!
Content marketing is your opportunity to build a relationship with potential customers and stay in front of current customers.
Through effective content marketing, you build trust with your audience and ultimately boost your ROI.
Of course, it always helps to have a platform that can help you meet your content marketing goals.
So let’s see how both Semrush and Similarweb can help you out with your content marketing strategy.
First, let me start by saying that Similarweb doesn’t really offer anything in this area. 🙁
On the other hand, Semrush is here to pick up the slack.
With features including topic research, content audits, keyword suggestions, personal recommendations, WordPress integration, and more, Semrush is definitely winning when it comes to content marketing tools.
Round 4: Reporting and Collaboration
Without Key Performance Indicators and a way to measure your success, how can you know what’s working for your business and what’s not?
So let’s dive into how both Semrush and Similarweb can help you analyze and tweak your current strategy.
We will also take a look at what each company has to offer in terms of collaborating with other team members or clients.

Due to the fact that Semrush offers white-label reports, it is a really great choice for digital marketing agencies or freelancers assisting clients with their digital marketing campaigns.

Last, but certainly not least, we are going to take a look at available Integrations for both Semrush and Similarweb.

And the Versus Battle Winner is….
For the first section discussing Competitive Traffic Analysis, I am going to say that Semrush wins.
Why?
Well, three main reasons:
- There is no data threshold which means you can access site traffic data before reaching a certain number of monthly visitors. This is seriously helpful for those who are just getting started and trying to build an audience. Unfortunately, with Similarweb, you need at least 5,000 monthly visits to access this information.
- There are several must-have features are already included in the initial price. Many of these same features are only available at an additional cost through Similarweb, if at all.
- I absolutely love that there is a 7-Day Free Trial available so you can give this tool a test drive before dishing out any money.
Semrush Wins Round 1!
Alright, next up. . . Keyword Research!
First of all, let me just say that Semrush offers an insane amount of Google Keywords- currently more than any other tool. This is honestly enough for me to hand them the trophy for the Keyword Research category.
But to be fair, I also could not find any information on how many Google Keywords Similarweb has available. So let’s look at the other features.
Both platforms are quite robust when it comes to keyword research and they share many of the same features.
However, Semrush gets bonus points for the availability of on-demand metric updates. It is critical that we stay on top of the latest data for the best results, so this is truly fantastic.
Semrush also makes it super easy to quickly access the most relevant keywords.
Semrush Wins Round 2!
I don’t need to spend much time on the Social Media and Content Marketing categories as Similarweb does not offer social media support or really anything specifically for content creation.
So this round automatically goes to Semrush.
Semrush Wins Round 3!
Let’s move on to Reporting and Collaboration.
As a digital marketing agency, I absolutely love the white-label reporting and scheduling options Semrush offers. I also love that data from external sources is already included in the package price.
Both platforms offer custom PDF reports and custom reporting templates.
So, who do I think wins this round?
Well, I also have to give this round to Semrush simply because it does go above and beyond when it comes to reporting.
But I will say that Similarweb does have some really helpful reporting features as well. And they’re following close behind Semrush in this category.
Semrush Wins Round 4!
Finally, we will look at Integrations and API Data.
If we’re being honest here (which is the whole point of this article), Semrush offers significantly more integrations than Similarweb.
I mean, you can literally integrate their platform with major social networking sites, text editors such as WordPress and Google Docs, various Google tools, and other key platforms such as Zapier and Trello.
I am truly blown away by the number of available integrations offered by Semrush!
Similarweb can be integrated with Google Analytics but really nothing else.
Semrush also offers all the API Data available through Similarweb and MORE!
This final round was honestly an easy win for Semrush.
Semrush Wins Round 5!
Semrush wins this Versus Battle! 🏆
Tell me in the comments which platform you personally think deserved to win. I am open to all other points of view. And please feel free to let me know which other digital marketing tools you would like to see featured in a Versus Battle.
